Design Team Leader (as employee of Szostak Design) for 105,000 sf, $44 million, 2,800 seat landmark proscenium theater to house Nederlander production Broadway touring shows and the celebrated American Dance Festival. City-owned building delivered through Construction Manager at Risk with Skanska USA. Architect-of-record is Phil Szostak of Szostak Design. In additon to receiving the 2009 NCAIA Honor Award, DPAC has received the 2009 Durham Golden Leaf Award for Design Excellence, 2009 Triangle Commercial Real Estate Women's Champion Community Enhancement Award, and the 2009 AWI Architectural Woodwork Institute Award for Excellence for interior woodworking and cabinetry (Awarded to Triangle Casework).
Theater includes orchestra, mezzanine, and balcony seating; the largest Broadway size proscenium stage and fly loft in the Southeast, orchestra pit, spot booth, catwalks; wardrobe and dressing rooms; loading dock beneath attached parking deck (by others); three-story lobby with concessions and public restrooms; box office and administrative spaces. Responsible for the coordination and management of the design team of forty different consultants including structural, civil, MEP, and numerous theater specialists including acoustics, rigging, sound and lighting designers; expedited the design process into a short timeline to meet legislative demands for start of construction; designed many interior spaces including the grand public lobby, theater egress patterns/circulation zones, and other support spaces; oversight and delegation of all in-house production and documentation through all phases of design and bidding; responsible for detailing of building envelope and interiors. Design Team Leader for donor plaza for the Durham Performing Arts Center with a light sculpture by Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa as the centerpiece, framed by a 64,000 sf, $16 million mixed-use spec office building and hotel with retail at ground level; design/build for Capitol Broadcasting Company.
