Somerhill Gallery, The Venable Center
Durham, NC

Project Manager (as employee of Szostak Design) for 9,400 sf, $1 million upfit of an existing historic building into a retail art gallery near the American Tobacco Historic District. Working closely with the gallery owner and the contractor, designed and issued drawings for individual elements of the space while the fast-track 3-month long design/build construction was under way. Artwork is displayed in a series of interconnected galleries which culminate in a light-filled courtyard that doubles as a sculpture garden adjoining an exhibition gallery complimented by a welcoming fireplace and informal lounge seating. Artificial and natural lighting - including over fifty skylights - is carefully orchestrated to enhance the presentation of the artwork. Opened 2008.
